Wet, Juicy Rear end in 300TD

I'm experiencing some Water Issues on the rear end of my car. It's a 87 300TD. I was Changing out some things today and I noticed the Spare well had water in it... this is not the first occurrence of this. I've replaced a Cracked lens which retained a Surprising amount of water.. Could This be related or has my weather stripping worn out?

Yes, the trunk seal, when it shrinks, allows water to enter so look at it closely and if it looks like it is not contacting the lid when it is closed replace it.

You can also get water in around the rear window gasket. That can be cleaned and caulked with black silicone. YOu will also want to clean out the rubber drain in the bottom of the well on each side.

My SD has a small rust hole under the rear window gasket. I'm going to POR it & add silicone as a stop gap until I get it painted. You can pry up the seal & look for rust.

While others are tailoring their answers to a sedan, and you appear to have a wagon, the rear window seal on the rear hatch is a known leaker too. Same thing applies with adding sealer around the seal/glass area. I've had to do that with Smash and have stopped a leak on one side. Now I have to address the other side...

My money is on the rear side window. You have a wagon, correct? They tend to leak (at least mine) in the corner of the rear side window. I need to re-seal my gaskets. While it is raining see if the carpet is wet right next to the glass.

I do believe it has to do with either the rubber around the door, or the tail light or a combination of the 2... the carpet is damp but not sodden, when i replaced the lights there was a small amount of water sitting on the spare side which had the cracked Tail lens. Is there a part number for the weather stripping on the door?
