Iam not a 190 expert, so I have a question about the picture in the first post.
The W123 have a bolt in the center of the hub that holds the axle in. I don`t see this in the picture. what holds it in? Charlie |
the large nut holds it in
|
Thanks John, the nut looks like it is peened in after it is tightened.
Then probably a one use item. Charlie |
Definitely a one-use nut. After tightening to the specified torque they are peened into the axle slots. When you loosen them, they are fatigued and need to be replaced.
I never replace them, however. What's the worst that could happen? :D |
Replace the parking brake shoes. The centering spring that holds the shoe in place snapped, hence the scraping noise.
I painted the adjustment star wheel WHITE before I put it back together, this makes adjusting the shoes clearance so much easier. It is a PITA to look through the lug hole to find the star wheel. Now the handbrake can hold the car in any grade.:) Thanks for you guys help. |
