Sunroof Question

I hear the motor turning when I push the button in either direction, however there is no movement of the sunroof.

I suspect a stripped gear. Are replacement gears available should that be the issue?

Roof problem

Correct me if wrong ( and I'm sure someone will ) but there are probably two reasons your roof is not working. And I think both are hard fixes:
One, you have broken the cable to roof. I believe this runs thru headliner and into trunk are .
Or two, you might have a motor which has stripped gears or cable attachment issues ( not sure on this as I have not worked on early MB sunroofs ). Might check my sources and repost later if I can find something out !

From what I've read this could be an easy fix or a slightly less easy fix. I'm not sure about the condition of the cable yet, but would like some experienced advice from others.

I can verify that the switch, relay and motor work.

Are replacement gears available? Would this not be a simple repair, if that were the case?

If your Chassis is designated as 123.130 ...

Investigate Mercedes Part # 000 820 32 07 "Gearing"

ALSO investigate FREE Electronic Parts Catalog (For one year):

http://epc.startekinfo.com/epc/subscribe.jsp

(They will ask for a US based Credit Card Number
['Just to prove you're one of their customers]. They will not charge anything to it.)

If the motor is straining, it could be a clogged up tube that the cable glides in. You can open or close the roof manually, see if that works.
