From memory, the bolt takes a 19mm wrench...........but I can't swear to it.

The manual also shows the use of an aluminum sealing ring beneath the head of the screw. I'm not recalling this ring on the '86, but it could be required, and possibly forgotten.

You remove the bolt and the filter drops straight down but you do not remove it. Get a hose and siphon some fuel from the tank and fill the secondary to the very brim (you might need to make a couple of trips to the tank).

Now lift the full filter up into place and secure it with the bolt.

The bolt has two O-rings on the OD...........one of them might be slightly torn or damaged. Or, they simply are old and this last filter change was the final straw.
Do not use your mouth to start a suction with diesel fuel. If doing this with gas any accidental ingestion is just nasty with seldom any lasting effects. Diesel I had been told causes more permanent damages with ingestion. I have no proof this is true but beware.

I'd still be on the side of the road in CT without siphoning from the tank.

If you use a clear hose, there isn't much risk............unless you're a moron.

I got it running. I did Drop the main filter but it was full... odd, I also Did your Suggestion of trying to start with the throttle to the floor, After I got the air out again it runs. the only problem being is This Ch ch ch ch ch ch sound coming from the engine, I've taken another Video maybe someone can identify the sound for me. Sounds the loudest the 2nd or third injector from the front of the car. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=P5KSU-JlhCg you can compare it to my other video I have uploaded.

Did you loosen each of the injector lines at the injectors? While the car is running, this helps get air out. If that doesn't do it, you can use this to determine which cylinder is the troublesome one (or, rather, which set of components associated with that cylinder). When you loosen the line, the idle should get worse, if it doesn't - you've got a problem there. Good luck

No I diddnt, I do not have the appropriate tools to do that and I dont want to risk stripping the bolt on them. I'll add in the Car was warm to operating temp of 80C

This injection system is sensitive to air. When air gets into the hard lines, it doesn't always get immediately ejected to the cylinder. When I changed the #6 line, a very troubling injector knock developed and remained for about 250 miles or so.

I'm sure yours will also disappear.

However, I am concerned that your problem is not solved.

I am too, As a precaution I did take the center bolt out of the filter and checked the o rings for damage, but I did not see any. they were seated in the right grooves and the hole was clean. I had to re-prime the system again as the fuel Seeped back from the primary during this adventure. I'll try to find the right tool to loosen the injector line, see if it's air, I need to do that anyway.. I plan on replacing the injectors as soon as financially possible in a month or 2.. Hopefully it wont re occur again.. knowing my luck.. it will.

You just need a 14mm wrench for the injector lines

Maybe one day, I'll spring for the crow's foot wrench from the dealer, but, until then, just be careful with the nuts.

As stated, you only need a 14mm open end wrench for the injector lines. They shouldn't be tightened excessively.

Do I need to completely remove the nut on the top or would just cracking it open work?
