. . . I'm doing it more to help keep another 123 on the road and I've become friends with the owner of the TD.
A double reward, Chad.

It's a miracle my car started earlier this evening.! It's -31*C with a windchill of -49*C.

I see a new starter in my VERY near future

That is really, really cold. I didn't know it gets that cold this early in the winter in Canada. Are you using 5W-40 synthetic oil?

We've had it really good up until last week, we were seeing plus temperatures nearing the end of November then it was like someone turned on a switch, and it was suddenly -20 and colder. We are under a windchill advisory right now, There will be -49 windchill throughout tomorrow and into Monday.
My SD is since retired, but my SEL is using 10W30 right now with no problems, my starter is giving me trouble. It pulls the gear out just as the engine fires, or doesn't move the drive shaft at all. There is also a NASTY grinding sound when the car is cold. I'll bet the pinion shaft (that's it!) isn't being thrown out fully or the starter may need to be shimmed or unshimmed.

I to had this problem on a gasser some years ago. I came to the conclusion that I had over tightened the hose clamp. The break looked like someone cut it with a pipe cutter because it was perfectly square and straight. I simply loosend the clamp, pulled the broken ring out of the end of the hose and slid it back on. Tightened the clamp and topped off the coolant.

Never gave me a problem again. The pressure is not that great that the clamp has to be so tight.

Yes, I was lucky, This time...

Chad, Just read this, Wow that was a close one. good you were at least
close to home, and not like my Timing Chain Fiasco 550 miles from home.

At least a you might have smelled the coolant if at highway speeds, has
that wonderful arroma .

My troubles were July 4 and 109deg that day, not up to my ___ in snow
and ice, we had plenty of heat, just could have used some Ice .

While we are Radiators, my old datsun PU I have owned for 28yrs and
465xxx miles, is still on the original radiator. I use distilled water and
antifreeze, so I think it added to the life of it.
About 6 mo ago, it had a leak, thinking it was the top tank seam blew out.
small leak, so just kept adding coolant. Until I came home from PNP one
day and the eng is covered with Coolant. I looked all over for a new
Radiator, non seem to be avail forthese old Datsun Diesels.
Bottom line here is, check the rad cap. This one was the original , damn
gasket was all cracked and split. I guess if it works, don`t fix it.

This Rad is all metal, I wonder how many MB Radiators can go this long?
At least the MB Rad are still available.
OH, I also run MB coolant in it .

That movie gets to me too. Think of all the lives we each touch in some
way during our own lives. Things would turn out differently for a lot of
people if ea one of us had not been born.
