Just picked up my new 1983 300SD with only 109,000 miles on it and was wondering if somebody could run the vin #: WDBCB20A4DB037945

Picked it up here in Maui, where the owner (2nd) hardly drove it.

It's a very good looking car - not sure how well maintained it was, but runs smooth. Some quarks of course - back windows, chair, antenna, AC...but I'm happy to be riding in a classy car again! Will post some pics soon. Thanks!

i had some gremlins that reared their ugly heads when I pulled my car out of storage which just stopped all of a sudden.

definitely. And I am becoming acquainted with them the more I drive - leaking fluid with AC on, smoke either from burning this leak or some other thing, funny sounds here and there, electronics... ahhhhh.
Slow going to accelerate this morning too - test driving it must have been primed. I'm getting a manual soon and will begin with the easy stuff - it's been sitting in storage for awhile. I'll take any recommendations...

I tried to run the VIN of my newly-acquired 83 380SL and since it was originally a grey-market car, I got less info, although the Russian listing did provide key data points. MBUSA program freaks outwhen I do this.

If anyone can expand upon the basics, here's the VIN:

At least these cars have no electronics for the engine and drive train.

turned out to be a leaking water pump and the wastegate hose was broken.

I would be interested to see more information about my 81 300D. Got her off of ebay, little information in known. If someone can point me in the right direction or run: WDBAB30A7BB244680 that would be great. Thanks.

Nope the Classic Center won't touch the car, because it is a gray market car and the MBUSA policy is to ignore and show disapproval of those cars, based on the snotty response I got.

I thought the MB policy was to help the customer. But I forgot about regional prejudices. Remember "Drive it in Germany for six weeks and bring it back?" They forgot about that here. Time to bring corporal punishment for executives back!:D:D

Fortunately, the chief archivist of a dealership in Germany helped me. :)

I got the skinny on the car, but getting records of repairs etc will be hard to find.

Earliest registraion noted was in 1993 in Vancouver Washington...man that car can swim...long way to Hawaii:)
