I have been trying to figure out what is broken with the glow plug system for a while now. I have a 76 300d that has a turbo engine.
Hear is what I have done so far: I tested for 12v at the input and on both sides of the 80a fuse and it was good. With the wiring harness to the glow plugs disconnected I get 12v at the male pins. When I have the glow plug harness connected, I don't get any power at the plugs or at the fuse until after the relay has clicked off. I can hear the relay open and close.
I took the relay off the car and opened it up to see if it needed to be cleaned. When I did, it looked ok but on the main relay only one of the two contacts are making a connection. The outside contact is closing but the other one has a small gap and is not making contact.
I am tempted to bend the other side of the relay so it is making contact but I can't find any info about whether or not both sides of the relay should be making contact. If any one knows the answer, I would love to hear!
Thanks,
Reed
