W116 hood release help please!
I have a 1979 300SD, which has a w116 chassis. My hood cable release broke today as I was preparing to open the hood to jump start it...so now I have a dead battery in my primary driving vehicle that I can't get the hood opened up on. The cable broke under the hood (of course) not near the release lever and I have no idea how to proceed... Of course I never examined the hood release mechanism while it was working. Does anyone have a picture that they can post? Anyone with any tricks or tips on how to best get the hood to release on a w116? Thanks a lot!

Best method is not always available, that is to find another car of the same make and model and study the latch mechanism to figure a way to open yours.Having had that problem in the past i rigged up a secondary release on my car that i can access with the hood closed and it seems to me that any time you have a really old hi miles car it would be a good thing to have.I hope someone can send some pictures that will help you, there is usually alot of help here. Don

If I make it out to the w116 next week, I'll post pics and write something.
