Too good to be true :(

A few weeks ago I was told there was a local guy that had a few cars up in mississippi on a couple acres of land. One of the cars was a 1984 mercedes 240D with a 5 speed??? He said it was brought back from germany years ago. Well he needs to get rid of all these cars and was selling them cheap, I thought I hit the jackpot untill today, turns out the car is a euro 1984 190D. I may be able to get the car for a couple hundred bucks and was told its in pretty good shape. Is anything interchangable with my car? Especially the transmission?

If it is a 190, then the trans is no good for a 617. Starter is on the wrong side.

If it's in good shape, might be a good time to start a benz collection
is the 190 a W124 or 201?

Well the automatic is not the strongest. You seem to have got around that though.

A few hundred if the car is in fair to better condition sounds nice. If you decide you do not want it mention it on this site. You might get a response or two.

The guy brought some pictures by today, it's a 1984 190D 2.2 also no rust.
He wants $500 for it but I dont know if its worth it. It is very dirty from sitting but he said it does clean up nice and the interior is in ok shape. Should I avoid this?

I'm interested...

If you decide against this car, I'd be interested in it....let me know. Of course, I have a feeling there will be several others also interested....

Do you know if it runs, how many miles, etc...etc...

Is there a list of the other cars this dude has???

It has 195,000 miles, the clutch is stuck or the fluid leaked out, it was running when it was parked 2 years ago.

arcticathlon -- If you have a need as you reference, I withdraw my 'bid' for the car...I'm simply looking to try and pick-up some other styles of MB diesels to expand my diesel selection...I'd rather see a fellow forum member grab a deal such as this if it helps him/her to accomplish a "project".....

Keep me/us posted as to who lands this car....

I will make sure it's okay to give out his contact info tonight. It seems the car will get a lot more use from somebody else that will really appreciate it, plus I am almost broke and might not have a job soon. The car would just end up sitting in my backyard for a while anyway. I really do need a second car because my 300D is my daily driver and can't really do any serious work on it unless its ready the next day. Maybe I can find a sweet metro

If I told you folks about the pristine rim\spare tire in the non-running car I saw this afternoon......you would ask, why I passed it by. Something to follow-up on several weeks from now.

I got a call back from the owner of this car, I would have bought it if I had the money but I didn't. He does not want to see the car get crushed and needs it off his property so I guess I will be getting the car for next to nothing now it will be something I can mess with in my spare time. How are the 190's as far as reliability? Are they on par with a 240 or 300D? It has been sitting for about 2 years and it was his daily driver before he parked it, since then the radio was taken out and so were the headlights by a family member and has no idea why they did that lol. The manual says this engine has a whopping 72hp!! I guess it can't be that bad with a 5 speed or at least not as slow as my old 240D with an auto.

It's lighter than a 240 so it's gotta be a little faster.
