Transmission shifts at redline
My friends 1984 300D has hard shifts. It will only get into 4th gear at about 75 when it is taching almost 4200 - 4400 rpm.
The bowen cable adjustments do nothing for this what are the other possibilities? Thanks

When my fuel filter start to get clogged this is what is happening, it take a long time in the near red to shift. Lack of fuel/ power I guess to shif fast enough.
How old it the fuel filter?

classic sign of (a) vacuum leak(s). Check the short piece of rubber on the left side of the trans at the modulator, and all short rubber pieces and nipples under the hood.

Vacuum doesn't control shift points on an 84 300d.

Unplug the kickdown switch behind the accelerator pedal. If that doesn't help, then the kickdown solenoid is stuck in the tranny. For this, plug the switch back in and drive while pushing the switch in multiple times. This may unstick the solenoid.

Just went through this. It was a stuck kickdown switch. Only I replaced my Bowden cable because I thought it was that. I should have posted on here first.
