Did valve adjustment. More power but more smoke.

I can feel now that the car has more pep, but there's also a more noticeable amount of black, sooty smoke when I'm on the accelerator. Nothing at idle, however.

While doing the adjustment, I found two exhaust valves too tight and almost all of the intake valves too loose. I adjusted them back into spec. Recent cold compression test was either 290 or 320 at each cylinder depending on which gauge you trust.

The previous owner has replaced the fuel injectors a few thousand miles ago with remanufactured Bosch.

As as aside, but perhaps relevant, I get some knock at idle. I'm new to diesels and don't know how much, if any, is acceptable. I bled the fuel lines one at a time and the sound didn't go away. I also have a slight amount of engine shake when warm, but more noticeable when cold.

I'll be doing a diesel purge soon.

Anything need addressed, you think?
