The reason why I think it is worth a shot is that he was able to get it going again reasonably well after the first incident. There will have been some particles distributed through the system that did not get removed by the previous filter change and these can then load up the replaced filter and also cause problems in the valve body.

Of course, this is just to gain some time before having to replace the transmission but it may yield a working car for some period.

well
here is the weird(?) part
drove it to work yesterday
almost no lag whatsoever
of course i never went faster than 55mps
stayed off the interstate
and didn't push it
the whole time i am wondering
is it going to cost me wasted $$ to take it into a shop for a diagnosis to only have to turn around and get a used one which could lead to more issues down the road?
sometimes i am absolutely convinced we should go back to horses
atleast when the break down we can eat them
AND cars don't have babies
one of my biggest problems with the solutions y'all have mentioned is the "very clean place" to look into the trans
i will most likely be working on this thing on my back under the car outside
and like i said i'm in NE ohio and of course it's winter now so is damn cold
i might be able to get the car into my shop building
the snow is gone at the moment and i'll be out of the wind and the weather but i'm kind of a baby about cold
again
it all comes back to $$
anyone have a sense what a used trans should cost?

Crazy Ray's in the Baltimore area lists:
Transmissions ................................... 90.00..............10.00( Core)

So even w/o a core its $100.
You Pull.

I have both cars AND horses. Trust me when a horse breaks down it's cheaper to buy a whole new one!

I didn't know there were so many people between Cleveland and Erie with diesel Benzes.

Carr Auto Repair in Warren, Ohio.PH 330 3947979. Give them the details. The owner (Lester Carr) will be able to advise on where to buy a used or rebuilt Trans. They have been in business many years with a very good reputation. I have benefitted many times with free info on repairs. Good Luck

one big question has come up
what years are compatable?
i know that the 85 is the last year of the 5 cylinder
are there any other major differences with the older models?
say an 82 or 83?
