Question about dashboard swap on 300 sdl
Hi,
I found a 91 W126 with a very nice dashboard and I am thinking about taking it out and installing it in my 87 SDL. Has anyone tried this? I can see that the glove compartment is now an airbag. Is it possible to fit the existing glovebox to the newer dash and leave out the airbag? What about other components? Will the dash internals generally swap over? |

Well, I pulled it. I will try to mention any issues.

I believe the glove box and passenger airbag are mechanically interchangeable.

I grabbed the whole substructure support for the airbag. There is another tray that sits under the airbag -- similar to what is on the drivers side in the SDL. I am hoping that will fit as well somehow. I am just guessing but it seems like the top dash skin plastic was reformulated in the later cars. Seems to be much less cracking. |

Yup, US cars with airbag(s) have knee bars to go with said airbag(s).
Personally I like the look of the US cars with dual airbags, the knee bars look cleaner and with one on each side it's symmetrical.
