Can someone identify this and tell me what it does (intake manifold) W115

hello,
I posted this question a couple of times and people found it hard to understand what I was referring to, so I've have taken a video of it, and there's also some footage of the car running with me moving the pice so can see what happens, the pice is the one I occasionally point to, its has like a curled spring on it, I don't know if its placed/connected properly and if its doing its job and if so what does it do
we got the car like this and its the original intake manifold ]
here is the link to the video I hosted on youtube http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9YQfeUj3eZk&feature=player_embedded
thanks jeremy brett

that is suppose to be a warm up regulator of sorts. When engine is cold it remains coiled , as engine heats it expands and varries throtle plate opening and closing. Yours looks damaged and not sure you have all the parts there

thankyou
so does this help the car to start in cold weather or affect the performance in different temperature settings, or help the car to get hot quickly after it had been started with the engine cold ?

helps to start when cold, should back off as engine warms with eventually no impact on warmed engine. really just needed at start up and as engine gets to operating temperature. When the engine is first started, a very rich air/fuel mixture is required because cold fuel vaporizes slowly. The "choke" provides the richer mixture by closing and "choking off" the carburetor's air supply
