Cool article on transplanting OM651 into w201
Didn't see this posted anywhere...looks pretty sweet. I'd love one of these in my garage!

"And then there’s the styling. Seeing it again makes us long for the stoic lines and supremely functional bodywork of the 190 series. If such an engine swap were available officially, we’d think this baby Benz could keep us happy for another 18 years." Oh, so true!

dude, don't kill the thread. this is about how f'in awesome the w201 is, and how much more awesome it is when you remove the 190d engine and put in one of these blue techs

"Yes, it’s a safer car with more amenities—but the old baby Benz wasn’t exactly a deathtrap."
totally disagree. i'd rather be in a crash in a 190e than the newer death-trap mercedes out there. i've had a friend survive a ridiculous crash which by the look of the car should of resulted in death but instead resulted in him surviving. i've seen w201's at junkyards pretty roughly damaged but the passengers survived. one of the best chassis ever made for survival

Here's Wired Magazine's take on the same car (has a nice pic of the engine going in) They also say it was a 190D, not an 190E which is interesting...
