I think the cost of filling up the urea tanks will become prohibitive when the cars go out of warranty.
Hopefully it will be a matter of tricking the sender unit

They're nice, but I'm still not really tempted.

Urea costs roughly $7.75 for a half gallon bottle with the biggest system taking 8.5 gallons and needs replenishment only every 10,000 miles. I don't think a person who's slapped down at least $60k for a new vehicle will care about spending $130 every 10,000 miles, even when out of warranty.

Urea granules are about $500 a ton ~ 25c/pound. I assume the urea is just dissolved in water. It wont take long for some enterprising person to produce after market stuff at a reasonable price.

I believe the stuff they use is synthetic.

Next time you are busting for a P** , just pull up on the side of the highway & lift the hood. When the highway patrol asks what you are doing just say 'I was filling my urea tank!'

I don't think you would actually. Unless they've had all their ****ty delphi injectors replaced with Bosh ones. There's a thread somewhere about the problems Mercedes are having with the new four cylinder diesels that are dropping like flies all over the roads of Europe because they tried to cut costs on them by using delphi parts instead of Bosch. One would have thought they'd have learned by now. But apparently the bean counters still rule in Stuttgart.

While I agree on some aspects of the technological advancement, VW has managed to do this without the urea injection...
