85 SD a Color of Choice question

I will be shortly rebuilding an 85SD the fenders I have are slightly differnt color then the car, and definably noticeable. So, The car is silver now, Should I keep it Silver or should I go with a different color, I was hoping the car would go to my sister but she is still under the assumption that Diesel is a stinky Disgusting Dirty Fuel...*sigh*

if you painted a SD, What color would you choose, bear in mind the interior color is a Red.

I'd go with the color code listed on the body plate. Proper color changes are hard to do as they usually require the car to be gutted to look good.

A red interior?

Stick with silver. It's a good color!

Do you have any pictures of said vehicle?

Repaint it silver, color changes never turn out that good.

I figured that would be the best route, but while I had it in for paint, I thought I would ask and see if y'all thought it would be a good idea or not.

Actually, any color change can turn out exceptionally well if you're prepared to spend $$,$$$ at a premium highly-reputable auto paint facility. But in this case, I'd stick with the stock color... changing colors may hurt the resale value as well so keep that in mind in case you ever part away from it.

X5, stay with the original stock color. I would also go with a single stage paint instead of the base coat clear coat.

Clear Coats suck, they always break down, peal and make the car look crapy.

I have learned to agree with you. But BC/CC are so easy to apply, and they look great--at least for a while, until they break down.

My 85 also has the burgandy interior. I have been contemplating a color change from the original white to a silver finish as the PO was in a minor front end collision and the front fenders and hood are obviously poorly color matched from the body shop.

However, after doing a color change 15 years ago on the mustang from the original yellow to black, I would not want to go through that again! I will probably just go back to the factory color when I do decide to do it.
