350 sdl

Has anyone ever heard of a 603 sucking oil in through the turbo from the crankcase. If so how much damage could it do. It has not been run out of oil and it will still crank.

Thanks, John

If the oil seal protecting the oil supply to the turbo bearing fails, oil under engine pressure will pump into the void which in turn will go into the engine intake. It will drain the crankcase in a hurry so if not noticed early enough can cause fatal bearing damage.

You can get an idea of what you have by refilling the crankcase and firing it up. If the bearings have been starved for oil you may have hammering from them or low pressure if they have been wallowed out from lack of oil. If you get quiet running and good oil pressure you may be able to fix the seals and be good to go.

Good luck!

Sounds like the turbo blew and the engine ran away. Don't try to start it until you resolve the oil leak into the intake (removing the crossover pipe is enough for a test). I'd do a compression test. A 350 doesn't need any help bending rods, and sucking in lots of oil might push it over the edge..

What evidence is there of it running away from his post?
