Battle of the Diesel Beaters

Here is an article from Car and Driver magazine (April 2006) that I know everyone will enjoy. The article features a cross country race between Datsun, Oldsmobile, and Mercedes diesels. There are also interesting car specifications.

"With only $100 left in the kitty, I pleaded with a Mercedes parts house called Adsit Company (www.adsitco.com, 800-521-7656: buy something, dear readers, anything) to provide parts gratis for our scientific expedition."

NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO

it was a good event. I actually owned a Datsun Maxima diesel wagon at the time this went on. The Maxima from the race went on to be sold on Ebay for like a pittance but the event was pretty fun.

Maybe Peach Parts can sponsor something like this ending in a GTG in the middle of the country

Odd that they had to plead with adistco to get their parts. Most of the time you just won't get them!

I'd be game for a cross country trip in someone else's car and at their expense. That might be fun!
I'd pick a 504 Peugeot--very much like a 240 D--underpowered, but indestructible.
