Need help finding an odd replacement hood star

Well i guess it would be more a radiator star I have this kit car that i just acquired, and it resembles a 1929 Mercedes SSK. Many call it the gazelle, and it should be a fun project. I am trying to find the star that has been broken off. it screws into the cap for the radiator, which really is the gas tank Any one have any ideas on where i can get one that fits. i cant see it working with one of the spring types, as i need it to be water tight (remember its the gas tank)

Cheers

The Gazelle came in two versions, Ford Pinto (front engine) and
Volkswagen based (rear engine).

I have to assume yours is Volkswagen based.

And... more to the point. I would recommend getting a standard tri-star
and find a local machine shop to provide a method for mating the standard
star to your existing fuel cap.

Looks like the post unbolts from the cap and maybe that piece can be
either tapped or just drilled for allowing that base to accept the
stem of the star.

I loved those kit cars and hope you get it all squared away.

Good luck.

Hi
Looks like you could grnd off the stalk and drill & tap so a small stud could be screwed in- then get a regular mercedes hood star and grind and fit it to work on the stud. Or perhaps JB weld it in place in an unseen manner
