Navigation DVD Failure

2008 ML320 CDI, 33,000 miles. This is a new issue with our navigation system. It may be coincidence but this happened on Dec. 31, 2009. The DVD is the original 2007.1 version that came with the vehicle. We had used our navigation DVD without a glitch until this date, then on a short trip we were listening to the radio when we decided to program in our destination and got the message that our navigation DVD cannot be read, please check the navigation DVD.

Has anyone experienced a DVD failure like this before? We surely hope the DVD doesn't have a use time limit.

Have you tried using a DVD cleaning disc in the disc player, or gently cleaning the disc itself?

Thanks for the thoughts. We did eject and reinserted the DVD, and we tried this after restarting the ML the next day. One of the first things I did was to gently clean the disc with a microfiber cloth.

I don't have a DVD cleaning disc but the vehicle is still under warranty and I will try to have the dealer check it out.

At the dealer. They tried a working DVD and the nav would not read it. Diagnosis is a defective navigation processor, the dealer had the part and took about 1 hr. to repair. The repaired Nav system is working. Now we have to replace all the data that had been stored. The repair was covered under the warranty.

This is a dealer where my experiences were exceptional - like an M-B dealership should be. Very pleased.

Good news. I had a CD/receiver start getting hot and softening discs, in another car. It was also a less than 1 hr. R&R repair.
