You might consider a ScanGauge. It attaches to the same port as ordinary gauges and can scan and reset codes but also provides some additional info as you drive, such as battery voltage, miles per gallon, gallons per hour, various temperatures, etc. It's more expensive than a handheld scanner; I paid about $160 for mine but it's a fun addition to the car.

Jeremy, thats a good idea. I do want to "tweak" this biobuggy over time and the real time datastream would be somewhat helpful.

For now, I have to get the stupid inlet air flap and EGR from cyling on and off.

The inlet air flap ( the one just downstream form the aircleaner) was closing on the highway, so I wired the darn thing open.

The fuel shutoff set all this other stuff off? Quizzical. And now the shutoff seems to work fine, but the other issues still exist.

Can a weak battery cause these types of electric anomolies?

( I miss my simple ol 95 606!)

Former Mercedes owner NHDOC has stated here in the past that low battery voltage can cause strange problems. Remember Apollo 12!
