Needed: Service Manual for E300D (W210) 1996 & 1997

I need a service manual for my 1996 and 1997 E300D's. I have checked several sources & can't seem to find a good one. I have searched all of the links & called numbers indicated in http://mbca.cartama.net/showthread.php?t=17075.

Does anyone out there have a service-manual for these vehicles that they'd like to sell or know where I can purchase one ?

Thanks in advance,

Brian

This place has it on DVD. A reputable company but it is $200.
(I would question them in deatail to make sure a E300 includes the Diesel.)

The factory DVD is NLA; it was priced at about $200, I think. You can occasionally find them on eBay, that's where I got mine. Some of the things the DVD can do are linked to a Mercedes web site; it's possible that a copied DVD might not work correctly. The factory DVD does appear to have some copy protection but as I am not an expert I do not know how sophisticated it is. I have not seen any aftermarket manuals for the 210.

He deals in print material, not cd/dvd. If he doesn't have what you need, I bet he can find it.

Information security

He won't have anything in the 1996 and up diesels. W210 CD/ROM is unobtainium. Which I'm torqued about as I need a wiring/engine control schematic for an errant '97.

Anything from Europe? Heck, I'll brush up my Russian if I have to!

has anyone bought one from the vanhala Ebay'er? He is not selling the $200 now unobtanium CD/Rom.

I'll email him and specifically ask if the manual containes the wiring schematic, engine control schemtic and error codes for the '97.

The Mercedes Manual link above shows OUT OF STOCK. I've had one on order since I bough the car last summer!!!

We might need to get "Star" access for a day, share the chore amongst a few of us, and download EVERYTHING!

Which I would be willing to do and share.

Unless someone has the CD/ROM, and I would pay you $50 to borrow it and download what I need.

BTW, Jeff has the written manuals. The cheapest one for the '97 is the electrical, and I would need the engine one too.

Are you sitting down?

$895 for the electrical & $2000 for the engine manual! I paid 8 grand for the car!!!!!

Subscribed, as I need to get this soon before I swap out the GPs and fix the shut off.

Gene,

Yes, I have pretty much exhausted all possibilities of acquiring a legitimate service manual for my 96/97 E300Ds....for the life of me, I have no idea why they don't make it available....how much could it cost them to burn a DVD anyway ? I have spoke with several folks at mercedes and they have no idea either.

I would be willing to share in the cost of the downloads as well, if I can get all of the service/repair info for my model. Has anyone out there already done it ? Any idea where to go/what to do once you pay and logon ?

IMO, sharing is fine in this case as mercedes has refused to provide a legitimate mechanism to acquire the documentation.

Thanks in advance,

Brian

I have no experience with Russek Repair Manuals but they have one for the w210

http://www.auto-repair-manuals.com

I do not see the word Diesel used anywhere though.

Could you try writing an email to the Classic Center in Los Angeles? I don't know how much influence they have (or care) but it might be worth a try.

The part number is the same as the one that I got from M-B. If it's the same thing, yes, it covers the diesel. It does not cover the transmission in the '96. It costs more than M-B used to charge for it, including tax and shipping; I paid $168 total. Perhaps they bought a bunch, expecting it to be NLA from M-B.

There is a Russek manual " Mercedes-Benz E-class with diesel and turbodiesel engine W210 series - from 1995". I have found it to be fairly basic, but it is fairly useful for general DIY work. The print is quite small for old eyes. The book size is about 6' x 8'.

Well, shoot, I just clicked on the link for that particular DVD, it is out of stock.

May I suggest finding a copy of WIS? It is much harder to navigate, but it has the stuff.

Hi Matt,

Thanks for the info!....I have contacted MBUSA several times, & they can't seem to give me an answer as to why they are not making the manual available any more....when I said that I may be forced to purchase a "bootleg" version (such as is available on ebay), they said "that may be your only option".

Has anyone out there gone on to startek & downloaded info for the W210 ? If so, could you please tell me about your experience ? It looks like the "bootleg" and startek are the only options at this point.....my concern with startek is that is seems like it would be cumbersome & expensive in the sense that you never really know in advance what kinds of repairs you may need to perform & then you may be forced to pay more money and spend a lot of time online searching for the correct procedures, etc....any comments or feedback on that would be most appreciated.

Thanks in advance,

Brian

Pimper,

I bought that one last night. We'll see how good it is in a few days when it arrives. I guess I can afford to blow $23 if it's no good.

I'll reply back with details.

This is the one

This one appears to be the same as the factory manual I have -- picture is the same as my cover, etc. They describe it as

"1996 - 2003 Mercedes-Benz 210 Chassis Family Factory Service Manual on DVD-ROM. 1996 - 2003 Mercedes-Benz 210 Chassis Factory Service DVD (E430, E420, E320, E300, E55 AMG; 4Matic, Wagon, Sedan, Diesel, TurboDiesel). Our Price: $197.00"

Unfortunately, they also list it as "backorder." Perhaps an email to them will disclose whether they can get more.

And my wife comments that Mercedes may not want to sell this manual -- people who don't fix their own cars would be forced to come to a dealer, hence increasing their service income.

Jeremy

Yes, the Mercedes Manuals site has it listed as backorder, and its been for a long time. I would have gladly dumped $200 for the manual and a code reader!

Evan lets us know. I sent the seller an email asking specifically on schematics, error codes for the 1997 E300D with no response. Flay bay you know, meaning you never know.

If any of you have a recommendation for a reader, I'm going to need one of those eventually.
