arm rest removal

The arm rest on my 83 SD just flops around. How do I get it off to try and repair it? I know I have seen a thread before, but I can not find it at the moment...

Remove the back "cover" (it slides down and out) of the driver's seat --- screw under the back edge in the middle of the seat. On a w126, there are 2 screws; I think a w123 has ONE screw.

The arm rest has a bolt that runs thru it and attaches to the inside of the seat frame. With the back cover of the driver's seat off, you can use a socket and ratchet to remove the nut holding the arm rest on the seat.

It's either a 19mm or 22mm sized nut.

any screws in the back cover? I am assuming this is the hard cover on the back of the seat, does it just push? or is there something attaching it?

Like I said....
Remove the back "cover" (it slides down and out) of the driver's seat --- screw under the back edge in the middle of the seat. On a w126, there are 2 screws; I think a w123 has ONE screw.

Use a mirror and look UNDER the back edge of the seat. Get in the back seat. It's the bottom BACK edge of the back panel.

Yes --- it's the hard cover on the back of the seat. AFTER you remove the screw(s), it pushes down and then out. Sort of flexes in the middle a little to pull out of both sides.

Do you want to remove the arm rest plus the shaft or just the arm rest itself? If it the arm rest itself then you do not need to remove the seat cover.

IIRC - Pry out the circular rim of the big push button, remove the button. There is a big circlip holding the arm rest to the shaft. Remove it and the arm rest will slide out.

Thanks,
the button in the end is missing. So I removed the whole thing. Maybe I can fix it and get it back on, or just live without it.
There were a lot of hidden screws on it, from over the years I guess.
Thanks for the help.
