Seller says low compression?

From the ad, it sound like he either knows nothing (or everything) about cars.

Despite the fact that the ad was in all caps, I read it anyway. I hate it when people do that.

Seller says motor is junk, yet still wants three grand. Methinks he needs to step away from the crack pipe.

180K miles and low compression? Something's wrong. The ad mentions water damage (and a salvage title). Wonder if it sucked water? Odd...

Go take a look at it. Take a compression tester and ask him how much biodiesel has been ran in it.

seller is not that knowledgeable but obviously has too many diesels it appears, see this ad for a w123 240D with only 89K miles on it!!! which hes selling for $5900, way more than the 96. If these were on the W coast they would have been sold already I assure you. I don't know about the 45 MPG claim though, that is way out of line with reality. Try 30 MPG

Oh, if anyone needs a tow and a meaningful checkout I know a mechanic near Statesville, just down the road

Ad says it went off the road in heavy rain, so maybe it settled in a ditch (???). Beats me.

If it went under water even halfway, I wouldn't have it!

Water damage + salvage title = tough to insure, if you were considering it

Even as a parts car, it's a mixed bag - electrics might be iffy, interior may have mildew issues. Is the compression bad because it sucked in water and rusted? Were the bearings repacked or are they going to wear?

When an enigne sucks in water, rust is the least of your concerns. Bending rods is most common. Water dont compress well.

Did you look at the ad linked by OP? It mentions another listing for the same car, with more details, in the cars section.
