algae Question

Can you catch the crap from fueling? all of a sudden I have a bad algae problem starting with the last fill...

Yeah it's possible if you purchase diesel from a place that has low turnover.
Find a West Marine and get some Startron. That will clean you up.

this place has high turn over, the local F.D and power co. fuel their trucks there... I must have gotten the bottom of the tank or the beginning of the new batch... I'll have to try to find it...

It's not algae, algae need light to grow. It's either fungus or bacteria.

black spots in the prefilter?

Biodiesel300TD 01-07-2010 12:17 PM

Black spots aren't necessarily growing organisms. You might just have some diesel buildup in the tank or lines that broke loose and ended up in your prefilter. I've found the same stuff in fuel level sending units, and on tank screens. Keep any eye on it and if it starts getting worse I'd start worrying about it.

You can put some biocide in the tank if you are worried but prepare to change filters a few times. The biocide will kill all the gooy growers and they'll end up in your filters.

I dont know what to do really... I'll try to post a few pics of it...I'm just sick of my car quitting on me...next week the car goes in and I told them to drain the tank and check the screen. that will be interesting to watch..

If you are having fuel starvations issues for a while now, I'm guessing you have a fungus/bacteria problem. Try switching the supply and return lines in the engine bay, that will tell you if your tank screen is the culprit.
