126 headlight switch removal
I'm trying to pull the headlight switch out of an 82 300SD, with no luck. I searched and most posts say to just pull the knob off, but I tried that with no luck. I don't want to damage it, just get it out. Is there a pin I have to push in or something?

Don't know if my 91 126 is the same but after pulling the knob off there is a large nut. Remove that nut then you have to fish it back into the dash, unplug the connector and remove from the back. I had to remove the panel below the steering column and move the air duct and work it out.
Hope that helps. |

I'm not sure if it's the same either- I tried pulling the knob out, but after the two clicks for the fog lamps, it wouldn't budge. I know on most US vehicles that used a pull knob you just reached in around and pushed in a tab, and the shaft comes out with the knob.
I just don't want to damage anything. |

I have two 82 300SD's and removal is simple, I just had to do this on the one.
1) pull knob out, two clicks. Pull again, it should come off. As far as I can see the knob slides on to these two metal "finger" pieces A small light bulb sits in that center bit. New knobs are like $6. 2) behind it is a 22mm (i believe) nut that holds the giant bulb thing on 3) you should be able to grab it from underneath, and remove the 12 or so odd wires from it, mine are all Philips screw terminals.

4X4.
If at some stage in the past some one has put a globe that is to high wattage in , the knob may have melted a little & become stuck. My need nearly breaking force to remove it.
