engine removal instructions-W124
Anyone have detailed engine removal instructions for '95 E300D? Mechanic says bottom end is locked. Nothing to lose by removing engine and breaking it down. Maybe I can "rebuild" it. Or sell the head if it's ok. If I find a used engine, then half the work will be done.

Not too difficult
Probably a lot like removing the M103 six cylinder in my 86. Take pictures of the little things that confuse when putting it back together. Pull the radiator, protect the condensor with thin plywood or heavy cardboard, disconnect it from everything that isn't coming out and I would say that you should pull the transmission with the engine. It is heavy and you need a good engine lift. On my W124 with the M103 I found that pulling the engine out of the compartment was easier with the front wheels up on wheel ramps - goods ones where the tires can't easily roll either way. People have been injured pulling engines, always be very careful and sure of what you are doing.

I have found that PDF guide very useful.
Would this guide be suitable to follow to remove a m103 3.0 petrol engine from a w124? or if someone could point me to a more specific guide for the m103 that would be absolutely excellent. |
