Wagon Rear Suspension?

I am looking at getting a wagon and have some questions about the SLS rear suspension.Looking at a wagon that is at normal level before starting the engine, then with the engine running how much weight would it take placed in the back to make the suspension move down enough to have the pump raise it back up? Should this happen instantly or should it take a minute or so?
How long should the suspension stay up,realising that these are old cars would one that stayed up overnight be considered OK or would 4 hrs be OK?
If bouncing the car up and down with the engine off the way you sort of check shocks on an ordinary car should it act like an ordinary car and bounce /rebound ?
Any advice or opinions would be very helpful TIA Don

Six concrete deck base blocks were enough to drop down the back of the wagon significantly. Don't know how much each weighed. Just put enough weight in the back to see the suspension drop visibly. When the engine is started it should level out. The best way to tell is to keep your left foot on the ground when starting the engine. You should be able to feel minute changes in the suspension in that foot. It probably should take about 30-40 seconds(?) to raise it up.
It's not that hard to work on the SLS so if it works at all, I'd be happy with it.

Two people for sure, and maybe one person sitting in the way back of the car will make it drop enough for the SLS to lift the rear. Any deflection of the rear will cause the SLS to adjust. When the car is running go sit in the back with your feet on the ground, and you will be able to feel the rear rise up, assuming it's working. Like Kerry stated the system isn't hard to work on but parts are expensive.

-A bouncy ride in the rear is bad accumulators.
-Not lifting when weighed down it low fluid or bad pump.
-Sagging when sitting is a leak in the system.
