stuck in low

82 300 SD. Trying to fix my ex wifes car, yeah I know-what a sap. Anyway when put into drive, it wont upshift from low, and when running, cant be put into park. When you turn it off, it then can be put into park. Feels like maybe something is stuck in the gearshift , a penny or lego maybe? Please advise, so I can get back to my 70' 250C., thanks

Check the kickdown swich under the pedal, unplug it and see if it shifts.

You'll have to inspect the shifter housing and see what is keeping it from going into P.

How many rpm's have you run it up to to try to get it to shift? I'd suspect a linkage problem in the shifter given the park issue, but a stuck kickdown switch or stuck bowden cable are possiblities.

something fell inside the opening, physically blocking the shift gate, looks like the top to a mascara or other piece of junk, got it out, thanks.

I'm going to have to check the GOLD car for such --- that car is OFF my radar.
