Beru retrofit kit

For those interested the Beru retrofit kit, I got quoted 115 for the glow plugs and relay. This price must be for a 616 because the sales rep said 4 plugs and a relay.

Was this for the sophisticated relay and plugs? Beru apparently has a system that reads the plug temperature at the relay and individually adjusts the plugs temperature. I felt and still feel it might be quite expensive.

It is becoming more apparent at present that beru has more involvement with research and development going on with glow plugs than bosh. Perhaps always had since it was their patented technology that did not apparently hit the market when it should have.

I for one was also unaware that beru had a retrofit kit simular to the bosh as well. Your price quote does sound around the price a standard retrofit kit simular to bosh would sell for. From things that are becoming more apparent I wonder if bosh and beru have perhaps the same parent company?

I now also feel the wellman design is not exactly a new design. it is cetain that the wellman old style of plugs definatly use the twin coil technology.

Another reason the original developer beru may have sat on their patent. Perhaps the upgrades required to build them even if possible back then
where too hard or impossible to produce with any durability. More likely the cost was much greater as well even if possible..

Things have evolved in manufacturing over the past 30 years as knowledge has advanced. It takes pretty good current metal knowledge to produce the tips on the twin plugs as they get so hot.

Most usable type tip metals may have sagged back then with time and use. Or the primary element may have melted too early in service. We are talking at least a two fold increase in actual glow plug tip temperature remember over our current plugs. That temperature also comes on line quickly.

That's most likely the SR-Set 039 retrofit kit for 601,602,615,616,617 engines which comes with 4 GN 909 glow plugs (post heating i.e. post start glow plugs). If you have a 5cyl engine you need an additional GN 909.

Beru

The W124 series OM602 uses the GR 075 Relay with 5 X GN858 glow plugs.

NOTE: this is NOT the Electronic (No 80 Amp Fuse) type Relay that came with the chassis...
It has an External 80 Fuse ,just like all the other Dinosaurs.
Only the Mercedes parts system can acquire the O.E. #007 545 99 32 relay.
(Which is Electronic ,and requires no fuse.)
