Help Guys, Saturday morning temp 9 degrees. before leaving for work cranked the old girl up to let her warm for about 15 mins, left the house for work got about 3 miles and she stated to slow down on me, I hold the peddle to the floor, black smoke rolling out the pipe, after several minutes it is running better but not great we limp back home and I take the 82 300d to work no problem. last nite at about 20 degrees I think I will see if I still have a problem took a drive at about 17 miles same thing happens slows downs billowing black smoke out the pipe, limped home. Anyone have any idea whats going on .......Many thanks Norm |
When was the last time you changed the fuel filters or air filter etc?
|
Air.
"Billowing black smoke" would lead me to believe that, for some reason, the engine is starved for air. Iced-over air filter element? Can you bring the car inside and let it thaw out a bit?

Billowing black smoke sounds like it's getting good fuel flow.
I bet it's on the intake side. Either restricted intake at some point, or a malfunctioning EDS or EGR system. I would definitely check the air filter first. Interesting problem. Never heard of this before. |
fuel gelling?
