Glow Plug System OM617 - 1985
Hi All, I saw something on Ebay that I'm wondering if it's worth the upgrade. It is a kit of 5 GP's (BERU) and a modified relay that supposedly keeps the GPs on longer. My car is pretty difficult to start during sub-zero weather but does start easily with the block heater plugged in. The car's new to me and I've not yet gone through it. I do plan to adjust valves, change all fluids/filters etc. The car will run on B5 to maybe B90 in the summer. The kit is listed for $149.00. New GPs from here would run about 85.00 and I already own the reamer. Has anyone used the modified relay and is it a worthwhile upgrade at the price?
Thanks.

If all systems are working properly, I would suggest that you use the block heater on cold nights and get the valves adjusted and leave it be.

I liked DAMAN's approach. I'll second it. Hard to beat that original engineering.

I put in a post glow relay when the original failed. It makes it run smother after it starts, but it won't help the initial starting. Check valves, filters, etc.
