Need Quick Brake Reservoir Seal Answer/Help

It looks like I need to replace the 2 seals (between the reservoir and the MC). My question is: Do you just pull the reservoir off the master cylinder?

I was kinda trying to do that but didn't pull up too hard for fear I might damage something.

Thanks for the help.

This is on the 84 300D.

It will pry out. I use a short pry bar close to the rubber plugs. Takes a bit of doing just take your time. The reservoir has barbs on the end of the nipples that go through the grommets.

It is easier in a vice, you can clamp down the side close to the reservoir and pry it up from the side.

Good Luck

I actually just went ahead and pulled out the reservoir after rocking it a bit and it popped out.

I removed the old seals and put the new seals in the MC and pushed the reservoir down. Its in there good but I noticed its not all the way in. I popped the reservoir out again and this time took the seals and pushed it into the reservoir nipples instead of in to the MC. This makes a better fit around the reservoir outlet since the seal goes all the way in. Only problem is it would not push down into the MC with the seals around the nipples. So I reverted back to the first method.

Not sure what the correct method is but it appears to be holding in good. except its about 1/8" out.

Those seals are a pain.....way back in time we were replacing them on one of our SD's and ended up breaking a nipple off the reservoir. $93 later we had a new one.

PawoSD, why did you replace yours? Mine was seeping out around the seals.

Do you remember how you got the reservoir with seals in to the mc? Haven't check the MB FSM disk yet if they cover this work.

Just did this last week or two - search for a recent thread by me with a great step by step from whunter in one post.

Really simple - takes about 10-min total time.

Ok, I read it. i guess I missed the "whacK' part

Update:

Roy!! You da man!!!

I redid the whole thing. Put the seals on the MC first. Positioned the reservoir nipples sideways (not directly vertical) over the seals and carefully but firmly pushed the nipples down and it popped right in. No whacking necessary.

(This time however, since I had the reservoir out - again, I cleaned it since there was black particulate residue inside. I liberally sprayed both compartments with brake cleaner until all residue was gone. Then blew it with pressurized air to fully dry).

Would it help to put a little brake fluid on the seals and/or the nipples to lubricate the installation and let the parts pop together easier?

I think the key is placing the reservoir over seals at an angle and easing it in. Thats all it took for me anyway. Lubrication will be a given since the seal will be soaked by the fluid already there.
