I need to replace the belts on a 73 220d. I've done a search but nothing definitive on how to replace the belt that drives the power steering. Loosening the bolts does not seem to give enough room to slide the belt off.

Any tips are appreciated.

The alternator belt I think I can figure out.

I think I last performed this job around 1982, and while I can't remember much about the specifics I do remember vowing that I'd never change the power steering belt again.... if the belt broke I was just going use the car without power steering.

Its a royal PITA.

If the the powesteering pump and mount on your's is anything like it's 123 cousin's then there are three bolts that hold the pump in place and an adjusting bolt that allow the movement of the pump.
