5 weeks and counting...A/C 300sdl
Well, it's been 5 weeks since I did my major repair on the A/C system in my 86 300sdl. New compressor, new drier, new expansion valve, new fan switch on drier, and new pressure switch on drier. My A/C is working very well. We have had summer already here in NE Louisiana. High humidity and some 90 degree days. No leaks so far, so I confidently installed all of my under car plastic shields and that sure has quieted her down a lot.
I have been keeping a temp gauge in my center vent the entire time so I can monitor temps. Here are some examples of outside and inside temps that I am experiencing with my refurbed system using R134A. Out side 70 degrees, 40% humidity: Vent temp 38 degrees. Outside 85 degrees, 70 percent humidity: Vent temp 44 degrees Outside 94 degrees, 50 percent humidity: Vent temp 46 degrees. These are all with the Recirc button on, and Interstate travel, 60 mph. I am satisfied. It's not as cold as my son's Honda CRV or my wife's Honda Odyssey, but I am satisfied. I wish all who are preparing for the summer onslaught of heat, a cool refreshing drive, in their favorite diesel!

Given the temps and humidity I'd say those are great vent temps for a converted car. That's only a little less than what I get out of my 95 with factory R134a, not too bad I'd say. I swear the newer Japanese cars are complete ice boxes with the AC on, even in the desert SW they're almost TOO cold, but they sure have the AC thing figured out, so I guess it's not a fair fight as far as that's concerned.
