However car insurance companies are dogs. Your rates shouldn't be determined by your credit score especially in this economy. Those companies are there to just make money and what better way to fleece customers by doing a credit check. I love my car, but I would prefer to not have to drive. In the summer I bike to my job so my car sees a lot less driving.

i agree with the driving without insurance. It really is pricey if you get caught.
I would always have insurance though - man I would feel bad if I really hurt someone and I could not make good because I did not have insurance. FWIW I used state farm as well with my claim and they fixed my car completely. If I can help somehow PM me. I probably still have some of the paperwork around here somewhere.

new offer
They came up to 2900, but i am still not ready to settle. Offered to let me keep car, but I dont know if I want to go trough the hassel of a reconstructed title. Will talk to them again and ask where they came up with that figure

If they are giving you cash + keeping the car, you may not have to worry about a reconstructed title, since it may never go to the junk yard or have the title change hands.

totally. plus having a spare 603 to play with is always fun. Seriously, prep it for long term storage in case you ever need it to go into another car that has a 603. I'd pull everything related to the engine and put it all (labled!) in a box with the engine on a stand somewhere

before they would issue a payment the title has to be turned in and a Certificate of salvage issued. I still will fight awhile longer. But if i fix it while fighting with insurance i dont want to screw myself.

went through this last fall, took about a month to get to the final settlement
in a nutshell i had a shop write an estimate for 60% of the car's value(the insurance opinion), i got a sizeable check, kept the car, and still had a clean title research the costs of parts, new vs used, and what labor would cost and see where you fall compared to their estimate

Several years ago, State Farm had a little imbroglio with 49 state AGs over its failure to obtain salvage titles for vehicles it had declared totaled. So you should expect SF to have some pretty strict internal rules on this subject.
But there should be some wiggle room with an older luxury car, where the market value varies dramatically depending on mechanical and cosmetic condition. The trick is convincing SF the car's value is greater than the cost of repairs (or greater than, say, 125% of the cost of repairs). If so, they can justify paying the repair costs without declaring the car a total loss. This requires good evidence of the car's value, and a claimed repair cost that doesn't go overboard. Good luck. pjc |

Update
Gregmn- Thanks for the links that seemed to help state farm to ADUST there offer a bit. I am still haggling with but we are getting closer. I hope to have all this mess cleared up by mid week so I can give people definite answers. pjc- I gave them pics when the car was fresh out of detail shop and from the angles of camera you could not see any paint issues. I wonder how that happened? So that allong with the price links seemed to have given them a little more motavation.

Finally
Finally state farm has come to there senses and given me an offer that i can accept. I will keep the car. I dont know if it will leave for some one else to fix or I will use it for parts on the next project. For those of you I have spoken to about buying your car : discretion please. I am currently working with congress(wife) to see what I am going to do. I will let all parties know by end of week. The only problem is now I have to Wwait for PENNDOT to process paperwork before I can get paid. Thanks to all for help and support
