Angry 1983 300sd Dead Transmission

I just serviced my transmissiom in my 83 300sd.
I replaced the vacuum modulator and adjusted to the correct pressure. Replaced trans filter. It was shifting perfect. Backed out of my driveway and put in drive to pull out on the highway and nothing happened. No gears at all. What do I do.
303 trans.
Thanks Ed

Is the fluid level correct?

Check all vacuum hoses and make sure you adjusted the pressure right.

If all checks out, looks like you ruined your tranny by servicing it. This does happen with neglected transmissions, the like thier old fluid better. If you saved the old stuff, if all else fails pour it back in.. it may work.

Ed:

Check for fluid in the tranny -- if it leaked at the cooler fittings or something, you may not have enough to go into gear anymore. Won't be the first time that happened, although you would have a puddle if this were the case. My 220D only leaked under acceleration, used a quart in 30 miles, no drips in the drive!

Also check to make sure the viton bushings didn't fall out, taking the shift rod with them -- if the shift lever isn't connected to the tranny ----- !

Otherwise, your pump is shot, no pressure.

Peter

I guess we should mention the possibility that the filter element was defective, broke up, and clogged the fluid input duct. A very minor possibility if you bought a quality transmission kit.

She is up and running.

I got in it this morning and warmed her up. I put it in gear drive and it went in. I rechecked the pressure and it was high 60 psi.
I backed the modulator pressur down to 42 psi.
It shifts well but it is flaring into third gear. The only thing I can think of is there was no new black pin with the modulator valve. It said in the procedure there should be one.
The vacuum regulator was adjusted, the kick down cable adjusted
all to book specs. Maybe she needs a new trans ? 278K
Thankyou all for your help. I could not afford to own with out all of you.

Turn the pressure back up.. the flaring will go away and you will get firmer shifts.
