That's awesome. Seems like you ought to be able to get a lot more than 15 Kw out of it, though. Wonder what RPM it's running at.

I've got a Perkins 4-108 running the 12k generator in my Wanderlodge. Don't know it that engine is approaching it's limit at 12k. The 4-108 powers a lot of relatively large sailboats so I suspect it could deliver more electricity if necessary.

2400 or 3600.

Probably 3600 from the sound of it.

I wonder how they keep the rpm's constant.

A good rule-of-thumb for generator power estimation is you will need an engine that can deliver 2 times the HP rating of the expected KW load.

For example to fully power your 12KW generator head you should have something like 24 hp available at your specified generator head input RPM .

Properly geared an OM616 should be able to run a 30KW generator.

Probably running 1800 rpm, common speed for gen sets in that size range. Generators usually have engine horsepower about 1/2 the KW rating and thats probably close to what that engine develops at 1800. Don

I agree, it doesn't sound at all like 2400 or 3600 rpm, it sounds like its running much slower.
