Hi guys,
my car is making some weird scraping noise when the rpm is about ~800.. it was raining pretty hard today and i drove over a puddle of water and the noise started to come out Any idea what it could be? http://s6.photobucket.com/albums/y245/shantibala/?action=view¤t=VIDEO0016.flv Thanks for the help! I'm not sure about that one.
On my '93 I had a vibrating sound that was made by the heat shield protecting the passenger side engine mount. The bolt holding it on was loose and it made a helluva racket but I'm not sure it was as loud as what you have. It sounds like it might be something on your exhaust.

the noise is coming from the passenger side, you cant hear it when you are outside of the car with the hood open, but from inside, that is how loud it is

If you get under the car can you hear it? Does it do it both in and out of gear? Could be a stick has been flicked up to the bell housing vent.

i was a one man show tonight, so all i could do was accelerate the car from the top of the engine and try to listen for noise on top not on the bottom of the car.
i could almost swear that it is coming from the passenger side of the car, from underneath.. where is this bell housing? does it sound like a bearing is broken? Yes it does it both In gear, and out of gear. i dont think it is a wheel bearing because i took the video when the car was parked and i was just pushing the pedal |

I think it's safe to say that it's an engine-related problem, as the problem occurs while the car's stationary and out of gear.
Sorry I can't help more than process of elimination there. I don't know W124s.

The bell housing is between the engine & the transmission. It has the torque converter (for autos) or the fly wheel/clutch in it. it is the closest rotating part of the car to the passengers side.

I would want to find out what the noise was before driving too much. I dont think its the brakes. My best guess is there is something jammed in the bell housing. It could be many other things though. Even a slipping fan belt, or some thing in that area. Have you looked under the car?

Is it in the front, or back of the engine compartment? I think you need to do some sleuthing to isolate where the noise is coming from. You might have to put the car on ramps and crawl under to investigate.
The alternator is in the front, and near the bottom.

it is not coming from the front of the engine compartment. I checked the alternator blades to see if there was any metal scraping.. there was none. from inside the car if sounds like it is coming directly from underneath the passenger side.

What about that little rombus shaped access cover area behind the torque converter ahead of the xmission?
