How much does a OM617 weigh

Does somebody know the weight of the om617? I am trying to figure out if I can pull the motor out with a s185 Bobcat.

How much will your bobcat lift? Will it lift high enough?
I have removed a couple of large motors with a front end loader, its a PITA. Especially if you get a little hydraulic creep.
for a OM617 I think you would be better off using a gantry or a strong roof truss.

I have pulled 3 with the trans attached with my cherry picker, and load leveler.
Borrow, or rent one.

An s185 should have no problem doing it. I have pulled and installed quite a few 617's complete with transmissions using a 763 and a old 743. just make the chain short and don't raise the bucket all the way up. Should be a piece of cake.

Thanks for all of the responses! I did do many searches on this site and google and couldn't find a definite answer. I plan on doing this in a couple weeks. We will take pictures!

Why not just buy/borrow/rent/steal an engine crane? I pulled one with trans easily with a crane.

How much will the crane cost to buy or rent. The Bobcat won't cost me anything but the price of fuel? I've pulled several with forklifts. I would think that the Bobcat would be similiar.

I bought a 2 ton engine crane from Harbor Freight in August for about $170 when I did my transmission swap....it is a beautiful thing. I'm sure I'll get lots more use out of it over the next 50 years.

An OM617 weighs about 550-600lbs by itself, add another 125 if the transmission is attached. Heavy!

Ahh but no one asked the most important question:

What's the air speed velocity of an unladen OM 617? Euro and American engines count!
