Fuel thermostat kit
Evening,
I'm going to order a kit for my fuel thermostat tomorrow from Phil. This is along with replacing the return valve/banjo bolt on my IP. Recently Sally had a dramatic loss of power, and from what I can gather from the forum - maybe this will solve my problem. I wonder if anyone has ever took the thermostat off and put new parts in it? Anything I should be aware of? Thanks. Hugh Sr 1984 190d OM601 (W201) |

put the thermally actuated part in the freezer first
it's nice to have a helper handy for this one. Search for a remedy to by-pass it, unless your climate requires it. |

Yeah the thermostat element expands at normal ambient temps. Putting the thing in the freezer for an hour shrinks it up. You have to work fast to get the e-ring retainer clip into the nylon recess to finish up before it expands again. A helper can hold the nylon cap down while you force the e-ring into place. The unit really has to be unbolted from the IP to be rebuilt.
