1987 TDT , fsm needed ,and blinker fuse blowing

Hey all. I just got a new 1987 300TDT . Its in great shape inside and out. 127,000 "original" miles. Feels like it inside but on carfax report it says in Indiana 12/06/2008 that it is exempt from odometer reading. The odometer works and po assured me they were original miles. Seats and engine feel and look like it.

Anyway, i love the car and ill be reading a lot here. Tried to get the FSM from dealer and they said they don't carry it anymore. Can anyone send me a copy and i can send them some money?

My first issue is electrical. The blinker fuse keeps blowing. The hazards work but no blinker. Whats best way to get the wiring diagrams?

Thanks.

You can order FSM CDs through MBUSA's website.

AFAIK the W124 FSM CD-ROM is NLA from MBUSA but you might find something at a used book store, in either paper or CD-ROM format. IIRC, someone posted an electronic copy on the internet somewhere.

If the emergency flashers work (they use the same electronics, part of relay module N10, as the turn signals) but the blinkers blow the fuse, there is probably a short circuit in the wiring to the turn signal switch.

Thanks all.

Thanks all. Its amazing discovering how much detail they put into these cars reading the manual. The Seats section alone is almost as big as the manuals for some whole cars.

Oh fun troubleshooting electical stuff. For the blinker fuse 6 issue, i'm checking the three circuits to see which is shorting to ground by disconnecting everthing from fuse 6 and testing each with ohm meter. I'm hoping its in one of the simple ones -- either horn or outside temp sensor (really hoping for that one).

Well great. All the wires at the fuse 6 junction are Black/Violet. 4 of them. Makes it hard to determine which component has the short. Anyone have any advice?

remove the wires one at a time, then check if the horn still works, if so that one is not the horn. One by One you will find which wires go to the things that still work,so by elimination you will eventually find which wire goes to the turn signals. Don

Best source for FSM is ALLDATADYI.COM / first car is 26.95 per year and each added car is 16.95 per year / some sections or possibly every section can be loaded and saved as a PDF file. for instance the electrical wiring diagrams, or A/C operations section. You could also load up a two sided printer with paper and print as much of the manual as you want. Access to manual is for one year and then you have to renew. Caution: be sure you pick the EXACT YEAR AND MODEL of the car you wish to have. If you change cars Alldata will make one change to different model during your subscription period.

It was the outside temp sensor.

Thanks oldiesel. Yes this was the way. The one problem i may have forgot to mention is they are are crimped together in one eye hole connector. I got lucky and the first one i clipped was the grounded one. The horn and blinkers now work. I think the short is in the instrument cluster outside temp display. also, the right side warning lights have a faint glow which means something is grounded out in there i think right?

thanks all for the help and links. Next thing, radio :)
