1982 300sd Engine Swap/Retrofit?
Hey folks!
Many thanks for all the help I've received in the past; the Mercedes Diesel Group has made it possible for me to keep my 1982 300SD in good running form for the two years I've owned her. In those two years, I've put over 60,000 miles on the car, with no complaints. As you can imagine, we're starting to get up in miles; up to 352,488 as of today. While I love the 617 and will do my best to keep her going for as long as humanly possible, the time will come when the engine will need to be rebuilt. Having looked at Metric engines' and their quotes of 10k and up, and also having had issues with MPG (high mileage duly noted), I was looking at the 1999 series of Diesel Mercedes six-cyl engines. Less cost, better power and more economy seem appealing. Has anyone swapped a late-model diesel into a 126 chassis car? I'd be very interested in learning more about the 1999 series diesel engine - faults, attributes, etc. While the 617 is absolutely bulletproof, I'm tempted by the later engine's efficiency (better MPG). Any swaps out there? Best regards, -James F. Smith |

James.
I've got a 1982 300SD parts car with like 165K+ miles on the it --- it's in the parts forum. I'm sure I could make you a heck of deal on the engine AND transmission.
