Another reason to appreciate the 240D

From Jalopnik

"...Two years ago, I had a conversation with Formula Drift champion Samuel Hübinette. I asked him how he learned to balance a car on the edge, and what made his car control skills superior to those of anyone else. His answer was funny, but not shocking, because it sounds almost exactly like to how I learned to drive: "I would steal my mom's old 240D Mercedes-Benz," Sam said, "and have fun on frozen lakes."

I have to agree; my 240 is an absolute "gas" to play with on the frozen parking lot down the road.
Totally controllable in a drift.
A great car to teach your kids how to survive a skid.

I agree 100 % . The first day i had mine the road was slick from the mist in the morning . Took a sharp turn out of the subdivision a little to fast and started to slide . The car handled perfectly and I recovered from the slide by a small correction of the steering wheel. Unbelievable road feel in these cars especially in turns.

I think I will miss some aspects of the 616 after I swap in the 617, especially after reading an article about the 240 in Mercedes Enthusiast. Not in fast, heavy traffic or on hills, but I'll miss working on it and the fuel economy, and I think I might like how the 4-cylinder sounds better. Oh well. I'm gonna keep it as a spare anyway.

Johnson and Hoover were geniuses among the ranks of the masters.

I read the same article it was in showroom condition what a find ! I went out and waxed mine but it just isnt the same. The 126 sel wasnt bad either even though it burned gas.

It said these 240's were higher priced than the gas ones and the owners chose them for the simplicity and long term durability .

Yep, the original owner of mine drove it about 190,000 miles I think.
