because they had the 6 cylinder 280se(l)...which was also available with a 5 speed.

europe and nearly every other country BUT the US could have whatever they wanted with their MB purchase. you could have a sunroofless, hand crank windowed, manual heated, hub capped wheeled luxury s class for all they cared over there.

the diesel thing was for taxi w124 and w201. you dont want a w126 to be a taxi do ya?

Those 3 units built in 1979 would not have had a OM603 though. The first W126s with OM603s weren't built until 1985.

The Europeans finally got hip to the notion of diesel S-classes when the W140 diesel became available for their markets, and we haven't had a new diesel S-class sold on our shores ever since. Funny how diesel S-clases have gone from US only to Euro only models, I guess the Europeans want all of those S-class diesels all to themselves now huh?

Indeed, another Nitske typo... they probably had the 617A's anyway. And those 3 units are likely prototype or test models as well.

I doubt they had NA's because the 116 SD had the 617 turbo.
