My sad 300D story

So Here's the story..
After searching for approx. 12 months I finally found the car I wanted. I purchased a mint silver 1985 MB 300D Turbo in August 09. Won it on bay. San Diego 2 owner car. 2nd owner had it since mid 90's was elderly and had put less that 6k a year. Had 156k when purchased. The interior was perfect, one 1/2 inch crack in dash buy passenger speaker. Carpet in great shape {black interior). Some small cracks in wood trim. Drove it from San Diego to Phoenix, absolutely no blow back, exhaust smoke or oil leaks. Had receipts that showed recent tranny rebuild, newer tires, A/C serviced. I was thrilled. Well 30 days to the day I registered it in AZ some chick ran a red light and hit me broadside, hitting both doors on the passenger side. I was ok, barely felt the impact. The cops figured she was going about 40 mph. Anyway the insurance totaled the car and I kept the car(now with salvaged title) with the idea of getting another and use as a parts car. But since Sept I haven't found one in nowhere the condition as this one. 3 sides of the car still looks perfect so I looked into getting it fixed. After contacting a few Unibody/Frame shops the expense was just too much for me right now (i.e..4500-6000K). So if anyone could use the car for parts or have it fixed I wanted to offer it here before listing on ebay.
I'd sacrifice it for $1000. The motor and trans are perfect as well as the tires(brand new spare). The car still drives straight. Drove it home from the accident (chicks car was totaled and not drivable). Only driven 1000 miles in the month before accident. Also it just had a Oil Change and I had just replaced the brushes on the A/C blower motor. If your interested or any questions email and I'll send pictures before and after the accident.
Thanks for letting me rant and forgive me if this is improper requesting this on this forum.
David

Sorry to hear that. I had someone fail to yield and plow into mine a few years back. It really stinks. You'll find another though.

If the car is still straight except for the damage, you should look around and see if you can't get a better price and fix it.

Bought a 1993 nissan truck that someone had spun out and hit a phone pole sideways in. Smashed in the driver door so bad it put a dent in the roof and bent the bench seat. The door was hitting the steering wheel, BUT the frame was straight, and it could be driven.

Found a body shop that actually pulled out the rocker, floor pan, and roof, then hung a junkyard door I had sourced. All for the price of 300 bucks.

Without seeing any damage I would make a random guess that you could buy a couple of doors, cut a good B pillar from a yard car, weld it in, and pull or replace the rockers if possible, hang your doors, and possibly bring her back to life!

best part is you were not hurt.

Shame to find a good example of a 123 and then to have it totaled by an inatentative driver. that really sucks.

A complete door from PNP is $60 with all taxes etc... out the door.
I have seen 2 84 300D that were rear ended, here were good doors, rockers, floor panels, door post etc... that could be cut out and welded into another MB. one with 97K and the other 153K. we did get the drivetrains though.

With out pictures it is difficult to tell you what to do. We do love pictures here on the forum .

If you did decide to part it out. you have way more than $1000 in parts, but that all depends where you live, HOA, Apt, Condo, neighbors and your storage etc...
Keep looking around, there will be another show up with a good clean body, and in need of an engine and other parts.

Your black interior is rare for sure, and you have the 2:88 Diff. that was for this one year.

Very sorry for your loss. Think of it this way, you were in a safe car for the accident and no one was hurt. What might have happened if you were not in this car?

I am a huge fan of black interiors. I have three W123's with them. I am very tempted to try to fix the car just for that reason...
