Is it ok to vent valve cover this way?

With that set up, you are not only pulling on hot air, the oil vapor is not being separated and drained back into the engine.

Depending on how much blow by you have you could be dumping a lot of oil into your turbo. The stock system on the later 123s is designed with and oil seperator that dumps most of the oil out of the blowby back into the oil pan. I personally would try to leave it that way as much as possible.

While not really related per-se, the stock system on the W124 with the 602 dumps it all straight into the turbo. The tube runs from the valve cover right into the flex pipe feeding the turbo.

My 602 has almost no blowby, so it really isn't an issue. I could see how it could become a problem for a tired engine with lots of blowby however.

Engine has very little blowby and so far it isnt causing problems in 500 to 600 miles. Not sure on mileage since engine transplant from wrecked 300sd my daughter keeps ithttp://inlinethumb32.webshots.com/44...425x425Q85.jpg in the road

Cool set up!

I would get an aftermarket oil/air separator. Too much oil injested could start of a runaway situation.

The early W116 617 turbo had the breather tube feeding directly into the U-tube before the turbo. No separator.
If you look for ForcedInduction's pictures he has a system with a container for collecting the oil from the crankcase gases.

It could cause a run away condition.

It's not clearly visible from the outside but the OM60X have a rather elaborate oil separator inside the valve cover. It's a kind of temperature dependent, spring loaded mechanism.

As with any engine, especially when it makes a lot of oil and blow by the big hazard is a run away engine.

This is how I did mine
 
For reasons I can't explain, my engine has fewer oil leaks than ever since doing this, at least much fewer spots on the driveway.

Kerry any pictures or search terms of the container set up ? I have the pre oil separator 616. Blow-by makes the engine look like a detroit .

I was looking through my pictures. here is one a guy ran the VC line to a oil seperator to drain back into the pan drain tube, and then to the intake tube. and a few pictures of the 240D oil seperator I have.

the first picture is the wrong one, oops. Iam going to make a bracket to mount it on the expansion tank. since I have the calif 85, I don`t have the oil drain tube back to the pan like the Federal set up.
