Custom TurboDiesel Chopper!

I just caught a few minutes of American Chopper/OCC where they where starting a custom bike powered by a turbo-charged, water cooled diesel engine as a promotional bike for a company called Monster Diesel. I couldn't see too much but here's a link to some pictures

Looks like a three cylinder maybe Isuzu or Yanmar?

Interesting...

Are the exhaust pipes really near the front / fuel tank? Whose idea was that?

I saw that bike too. Pretty cool, though at times it seemed like an infomercial for the Monster Diesel additive.

Could that be the air intake? I didn't examine pics carefully but saw the two pipes coming up in the front. More likely a place for air than exhaust.

That's what I originally thought, but I didn't see any exhaust pipes. The pictures aren't too great

This is the best picture:

I am going to dig for other photos. I can't imagine that would be the exhaust, based on its location and orientation.

Those may very well be the exhaust pipes. I was hoping not, but I suppose its true.

The OCC guys are great, but I'm not digging the design of that exhaust system. I suppose the engine configuration didn't leave too many options.

Yeah, I have no clue. I'll watch the episode if it appears online. I'm pretty curious at this point.

I wouldn't like sucking fumes while riding a motorcycle...that's for sure...

What an ugly engine, they should have dressed it up a bit. And exhaust in the face? Hmm...I do like diesel motorcycles though, I've seen a few. I think the only one that looked cool used a TDI engine but the thing was massive.

Those pipes are the exhaust! I suppose it's a stylistic element! I only saw maybe 3 minutes of the later repeat of the show where they where trying to fire it up for the first time, there was some serious black unburned fuel smoke emanating from those pipes as they tried to get it to start!

If you haven't already, check out the engine in the Neander link I've provided, that is one pretty piece of engineering!

that is the exhaust, and i believe they said that the motor was out of a tractor of some sort. definitely a cool idea, but not a very thought through design.

Well, yeah! Monster commissioned the bike, and in a case like that they are pretty much footing the whole bill for the show...
