sprinter engine and tranny to another car?

I daydream of my ninety five chebby wagon with a proper diesel engine. Anybody have knowledge of how tough it would be to put in one of those massively torquey sprinter engines? Computer stuff needed?

I've seen them for sale on Ebay and I've been waiting for someone here to do it. Yes, I think you would need the computer and it would seem you would need the tranny to because don't the engine and transmission communicate via the computer?

No No No...

Drop a 502 in it if you have the need for speed :D
If you are going to go with a Diesel, get a Corvette six speed and forget the engine/transmission computer linkage.

I'm not after speed. The lT1 has plenty of that, it just uses too much fuel for my liking.

I am not sure the stick conversion would be so easy.

I saw an article someone posted on this forum about a sprinter engine into a 190. Don't remember the details, but that could be a basis for a swap into anything else.

I'll have to search that.

Thanks!

Considering how skittish the 190s are with just a 2.3....the sprinter engine would make it uncontrollable.....

X2 I have the same truck 95 with the gutless but reliable tbi motor . Thirteen mpg going down hill . I was thinking a mechanical 4bt or 6 cummins I never thought about the sprinter option . Keep up with the post as to what you decide . You have me curious .

It would probably even qualify on the emissions portion which we will be facing soon enough in san antonio.

What kind if MPG are you getting? I used to average 26mpg in the Impala SS. Of course it was a different shape, but I used to drive it at 80+

If you are really looking for MPG I guess the sprinter engine would be OK, although a six speed and the LT1 might do the trick.

oh yeah six speed in a Caprice wagon is the stuff... Eagleco-94 used to have one like that... headers and electric cut offs.Never got to see his Imapala SS run with the 6 speed and seriously built motor. But going fast in a massive wagon is awesome

t walgamuth 01-31-2010 12:26 PM

People claim to be getting mid twenties in their wagons, but I have never gotten close to that. I am not sure if I have taken a trip though since I got my second o2 sensor.

Yer gonna need to be quite the computer expert.

Are you aware the throttles, i.e. gas pedal and all, are drive by wire?

t walgamuth 01-31-2010 06:01 PM

All I know is it should fit physically. I am asking here because I need information like that before making any moves.

I've been thinking about a Sprinter to replace the mini-van... This seems like a pretty good source of info on Spinters

Merced did a project and put a Bluetec diesel into an old 190. It improved remarkably.
